Terrifying?

Dear Partners in Green,
It is chilling.
I am pretty sure you have seen it in the headlines from CNN, The New York Times, and The Guardian. Climate activists in seemingly progressive countries have been handed down prison terms equivalent to those given to rapists and thieves.
We are on the edge of climate devastation, and protesters delaying traffic and seeking other means to bring this dire issue to the forefront are being severely punished.
The disruption of traffic in London, which was pejoratively termed a “stunt,” resulted in four-year prison terms for the protestors.
The “powers that be” fear economic damage, but what of the irreversible damage to the ecosystem? What about the damage to homes and livelihoods of residents of the “Third World”? They, we know, are the first people forced to migrate, to become immigrants, and thus to become targets of bigotry and hate, to be used by politicians for their own self-serving agendas. Here in our own country, we are reminded that this behavior is protected by the First Amendment.
But in the end, no one will be safe. A new normal will establish itself.
It is difficult to imagine the lives of our descendants.
So what can we do?
- Live as green as we possibly can.
- Speak up.
- Pray.
- Protest.
- Vote.
Thank you for being on this journey.
Wishing peace and health to you and your loved ones.
Till next time,
Beth
