There is a palpable sense of urgency,
fueled by frustration,
hopelessness,
fear,
disgust,
outrage,
despair,
and guilt.

Some prefer denial
as protection from
this existential threat to
life on earth.

It seems that collective deception,
and misinformation
alleviate fear,
while allowing greed, exploitation,
and business as usual
to perpetuate their cruelty upon the least
of these, indeed to rule the day.

And so together we pray,
prayers strengthened
by purpose, perseverance, determination,
creativity, patience and action,

prayers strengthened by knowledge,
by truth, by realistic expectations,
by joy, and with hope.
